Background and American Nostalgia

What was our inspiration behind the Big Yellow Taxi? From the love of music and a nostalgia for New York City and Chicago in the 70s and 80s

As you may have already guessed, the design of our taxi was heavily influenced by the love of the vintage Checkers cabs operating in Chicago and New York City. Growing up, I remember watching the Danny Devito show “Taxi” and falling in love with the design of the Checker cab.

And some of you may also be aware that our name came directly from the song by Joni Mitchell; “Big Yellow Taxi”.

Combining our nostalgia for American cabs & culture during the 70’s & 80s period, we wanted to recreate a piece of cultural history.

Sadly, due to taxi regulations, we cannot run a proper Checkers car, however we were able to work with Design Fife redesign a modern Skoda Octavia. We chose the Skoda for reliability but most importantly for the spaciousness, luxury and modern comforts it provides our passengers

Design Fife made our initial mockups which were then passed onto Evolution Customs.

Evolution Customs then took the initial design and turned it into a car wrap for us, and the results were outstanding!

A surprising benefit from our design choices is that we’ve kept the name and branding simple and clear which ensures you cannot miss our taxi on the streets, and if you hire us to collect you from an event, you can always be sure to be getting in the correct taxi.
