How it started
A yellow cab, a song and a lot of television
Big Yellow Taxi Co. started in 2021 with one car and an idea that went back to childhood.
Growing up in Fife, we watched New York on television. Yellow Checker cabs turned up in the opening titles of the police shows, Taxi was set in a New York cab garage, and Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi was on the radio.
So when we set up a taxi company of our own, the look was settled before anything else: a yellow car, a chequered belt along the side, and a name borrowed from the song.
Later we took over St Andrews Taxis, and the two companies now work from the same St Andrews office, with the same booking team and the same number. The fleet has grown to include minibuses and other cars, but the yellow Octavia is still the one people ask for by name.

How do I book?
Call 01334 600 600, or send a booking request from this website. For journeys in the next few hours, please phone.
Is my journey booked when I send the form?
No. The form sends us a request. We check availability and reply to accept or decline it. Your journey is booked only once we accept.
Will a yellow cab always come?
We have one yellow cab and it is popular. If you ask for it and it is not free, we will offer a car from our sister company St Andrews Taxis and tell you before we confirm.
Can you take golf bags and lots of luggage?
Yes. Tell us how many bags and cases when you book so we send a vehicle with enough room.
Do you have larger vehicles?
Yes. Between us and St Andrews Taxis the fleet includes minibuses. Tell us how many people are travelling.
How can I pay?
We take all major credit and debit cards, including contactless.
